EMFC is holding a USFA Fencing Referee Seminar and Written Exam
posted
on Jan 3, 2007 Former Northern California Division Chair and Internationally acclaimed referee Tomek Amborski will be holding a Referee Seminar at the Elite Musketeer Fencer's Club. Part 1 on January 12th, 2007 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, and Part 2 on January 12th, 2007. During the first part of the seminar you will review the major rules and regulations, review all topics covered on the referee exam, listen to live examples. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and get answers from the expert. Following that we will hold a Written Referee Exam at the Elite Musketeer Fencer's Club on January 26th, 2007 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. To obtain a rating of a particular weapon, a candidate must first attend a Referee Seminar (part 1 of Tomek's seminar or 2 out of 3 parts of the seminar ran by Peter Burchard, or any full seminar in the last 12 months), then pass the written General Section as well as specific weapon section. Part 2 of the seminar, on January 26th, 2007 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm will cover practical approach to refereeing, from basic duties to usual and most unusual situations, and review your past experiences. Within one year of successful completion of the seminar and written portion of the exam, a candidate must also pass a practical examination, which you will be able to schedule with Tomek individually. The USFA current rating scheme is based on a 10 level scale, with 1
being the highest. You can find more information about the USFA rating scheme
and refereeing during the clinic. |
2005-2006 Bay Cup missing medals
posted
on Oct 26, 2006 If you competed in a Bay Cup event last season and did not receive
a medal (when you earned one, of course) because the host club did not have the medals available, please contact Eric immediately with the name of the event that you earned but not received a medal. Medals that you lost, the dog ate or your younger brother took and slung over the gully don't count!
Will need to know all missing events by November 20 so that replacement medals will be delivered by December sometime. Thanks |

At the moment, we're busy with some transaction issues and the start-up issues with this season. We hope to have prizes available before Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
UPDATE:
Prizes have been purchased. Read here for more information on how they will be delivered!!! YAY!
Please read the associated comments to this thread to find out more about the prizes. |
International Level Youth Foil Competition In Paris, France
posted
on Nov 1, 2006 Foil boys and girls, if you want to prove to the world where the best youth foil fencers are, consider attending the Challenge C.E.P. - Paris (FRA) Foil Marathon, Saturday Feb 3, 2007.
There is a Under-15 (equal to our Y14: birth years 1992-1993 only) individual foil competition for boys and girls and there's a Under-13 (equal to our Y12: birth years 1994-1995) foil competition for boys and girls as well.
Be prepared for a LONG competition, as it will include TWO rounds of pools of 6 or 7 and repechage (double-direct elimination) from 64 for the boys and from 32 for the girls. (Let's just say that double direct from 32 may cause some fencers to age out by the time the final of 8 starts. For the boys, bring your shaving kit because repechage at 64 is a super long, long, long event.) On the other hand, they expect to be presenting awards by 8PM, so you would have time to check out the Paris nightlife.
FIE specific license is not required. Your national license (i.e., your USFA membership card) would suffice. |

Bay Cup need referees | ||
posted
on Sep 10, 2006 The Bay Cup strongly encourages all fencers who can or want or are interested in refereeing to offer their services. We are extremely thin in foil and saber referees. If you can do it, we want to see you doing it!
Also, I need names of available referees from various clubs. In particular: TFC, SSC, CFA-MV, EMFC, Cardinal FC, AdSC, SFFC, EBFG, PFC, GPS, MFA, SFA, SacFC, NFC. Give me names of people who are willing to be called upon for refereeing at outside clubs. Email edew (at) thebaycup (dot) org.
